Flourish Has Moved

After about a year in Gainesville, we've relocated to Jacksonville in pursuit of more business opportunities and the chance to collaborate with larger and more established Web design firms. The move won't affect our current clientele at all, and we're still looking forward to serving businesses in the greater North Florida area, including Gainesville, Ocala, Dunnellon and Crystal River. However, the move will allow us the chance to be closer to larger markets in Jacksonville and St. Augustine.

Bulletproof Gallery Style Lists

Listing pages are becoming increasingly ubiquitous features of Web design as content management systems enable even the smallest sites to easily upload and archive a ton of data. However, creating a gallery style list poses a quite a challenge that if not tackled properly can result in a broken page that does more harm than good to the design. In this article, we'll be creating a bulletproof gallery framework using just a little CSS, some server-side logic and a dash of jQuery for standards-challenged browsers.

We Love Adobe Fireworks!

Adobe Photoshop is the graphics program that many designers cut their teeth on, and it's proven itself as the end all, be all standard in the design industry. It's extremely feature rich and can handle lot of advanced graphic filters and effects. At it's core, however, Photoshop is a bitmap editor aimed at print work and photo editing (duh!), and it's honestly not the most efficient graphics program for Web design work. We switched over to Fireworks about a year and a half ago, and can say with confidence that we're never going back! Here's why.

ExpressionEngine 2.0 Beta

At Flourish Web Design, we know and love ExpressionEngine, so much so that we use it almost exclusively for our client projects. Unlike most of its competitors, ExpressionEngine is well-documented, commercially supported and extremely extensible, built to be customized rather than forcing developers to hack it to pieces, then put it back together again to achieve custom functionality. As great of a piece of software as it is, however, there are still some lacking features. That's why were so excited to hear that the ExpressionEngine 2.0 Beta is now available!

Flourish Web Design was once again featured in a great article, this time over at Web Designer Depot. We received such a high number of hits in such a short time that our Web site crashed, but we're back up and running thanks to the good folks at HostGator.
